What is STEP?
Southbank Institute of Technology (SBIT) offers school students in Years 11 and 12, units from, or leading to selected Diplomas.
This program is known as STEP Southbank Tertiary Entrance Program.
STEP students will be offered an on-campus experience at SBIT. STEP students will be required on campus at SBIT between 38 hours each week. Following Year 12, STEP students will have the opportunity to complete the entire Diploma program at SBIT with confirmed entry and credit into the program they have been studying.
The majority of these Diplomas will provide pathways and credit towards university programs.
Benefits
Successful completion of the Business STEP program will deliver:
A Certificate IV Business, and direct entry to the Diploma following Year 12
8 QCE credit points
6 months remaining in the Diploma a reduction of 6 months
STEP forms part of a students high school curriculum and students will be accumulating credit towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) as well as working toward a Diploma qualification.
STEP fast-tracks completion of a Diploma by decreasing the full-time load of students following Year 12.
After completing Year 12 STEP students will be offered confirmed entry to the Diploma they have been studying. STEP students will therefore know in Year 11 they have a guaranteed place at SBIT, post senior schooling and the ability to bypass the QTAC process at the end of Year 12.
STEP reduces the cost of completing a Diploma, and provides an affordable option to school students who only pay material fees.
STEP provides exposure to alternative delivery methods, including practical experience, which enhances learning and preparedness for the workplace.
If a STEP student transitions to university after completing their Diploma they will achieve both a Diploma and university qualification in near to the equivalent time it takes to complete a university award alone.
The pathways developed by SBIT and university partners provide a quality, highly focused learning experience for STEP students. These pathways combine the complementary strengths of both institutions.
