Film and Visual Effects
(Incorporating CUF40107 Certificate IV in Screen and Media)

This Film and Visual Effects course explores the creative and technical practices required for screen media productions. These skills can lead you to a career in the film, television and digital effects industries as an editor, camera operator, production crew, 3D animator or modeller, or concept, visual effects or motion graphics artist.

The Diploma of Screen and Media - Film and Visual Effects will develop your skills in:

• Planning and shooting productions
• Camera control
• Editing
• Compositing
• 3D modelling and animation
• 2D animation
• Concept art
• Character design
• Motion graphics

As a result of Southbank Institute's significant industry contacts and internal partnerships, you will be given the opportunity to participate in live productions throughout your Film and Visual Effects course.

Entry Criteria

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent  
or
Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies  
and
Competence in Windows applications (e.g word processing packages) and Creative Talent are also desirable

Additional University Pathway Options
Credit towards the following degree programs is available to graduates of the Diploma. Students must apply for University entry through QTAC and must commence studies in the February immediately following graduation from the Diploma.

• Bachelor of Fine Art (Animation) (Queensland University of Technology),
• Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production (Griffith University),
• Bachelor of Applied Media (University of Southern Queensland),

In each case students can apply for one year's credit, leaving 2 years of study to complete the degree.

Full Time        18 months
Classes are generally scheduled between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Standard course cost will be charged for units of study/courses credited via RPL.

Government Subsidised Fee:
- Full Rate: $5,241

A $40 annual Administration Fee is applicable to Government subsidised enrolments.

Government subsidised fees must be paid through existing payment methods at the time of enrolment.

Full Fee: $21,100 VET FEE-HELP* eligible.

To be eligible for VET FEE-HELP, and defer payment of fees, a student must be enrolled in a full fee paying course.

Total course tuition fees are indicative only. Fees are subject to annual adjustment. For FEE-HELP and VET FEE-HELP eligible courses, the unit fees are charged according to the study period in which the unit is commenced. The unit fees outlined in this document apply to census dates between 01 January 2012 and 30 June 2012. Unit fees will not change for this period. Course commencement is dependent on sufficient enrolments, accreditation and registration requirements.
