Diploma of Paramedical Science
(Anaesthesia)

Give yourself the best shot at becoming an anaesthetic technician. While training in our state-of-the-art facilities you’ll develop the knowledge and skills to assist the anaesthetist carry out local or general anaesthetics and recovery procedures. You’ll maximise your skills with an intense clinical placement putting everything you learn into practise in the real working environment.

The Diploma of Paramedical Science will develop your skills in:

• Communicating with other medical professionals, technical and maintenance personnel and patients
• Anaesthetic preparation procedures
• Assisting anaesthetist during procedures
• Immediate post-operative recovery
• Aseptic techniques
• Control of microbial growth
• Sterilisation and decontamination procedures

Southbank Institute has links with the University of the Sunshine Coast so you can enter partway through their Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree. This means you can benefit from direct entry into university and get a dual qualification. In taking this route you will learn practical skills combined with theoretical and practical knowledge that will hold great appeal to potential employers.

Anaesthetic Technician

Entry Criteria

Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a Sound Achievement in English and Mathematics and a Sound Achievement in Year 10 Science  
and
Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies  
and
Southbank Institute of Technology requires that applicants have a current Senior First Aid Certificate  
and
Hepatitis B immunisations are mandatory so students must be able to provide records to substantiate this or blood test results to show immunity  
and
In conjunction with Qld Health, Southbank Institute of Technology will also provide free Tuberculosis screening prior to clinical placement. Qld Health will then issue students with a certificate.

Program Duration

Full Time        24 months
Generally full time classes are timetabled between the hours of 8.00am and 8.00pm, weekdays.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Standard course cost will be charged for units of study/courses credited via RPL.

Government Subsidised Fee:
- Full Rate: $13,146

A $40 annual Administration Fee is applicable to Government subsidised enrolments.

Government subsidised fees must be paid through existing payment methods at the time of enrolment.

Full Fee: $17,964 VET FEE-HELP* eligible.

To be eligible for VET FEE-HELP, and defer payment of fees, a student must be enrolled in a full fee paying course.
