Diploma of Beauty Therapy

Give the full treatment to your career in the health and beauty industry, by undertaking training at our beauty school as a spa and beauty therapist. From health spas to hotel resorts, film studios to photographic shoots, we offer the perfect beauty course to increase the attractiveness of your talents. We offer the perfect training for aspiring beauticians and are one of the few beauty colleges in Brisbane to offer photographic makeup and spa treatments training within the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.

The Diploma of Beauty Therapy course will develop your skills in:
• Makeup application - including photographic makeup
• Aromatherapy and reflexology
• Nail treatments – including manicures and pedicures
• Facial treatments – including advanced beauty treatments with electrical equipment
• Hair removal and tinting
• Spa treatments
• Applying knowledge of nutrition, skin science and cosmetic chemistry to beauty treatments
• Beauty therapy clinic management.

Entry Criteria

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent  
or
Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies

Relevant experience in the Industry

Program Duration

Full Time        12 months
Part Time       2 years
Classes are normally timetabled between 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. However, there may be some evening classes to accommodate lecture availability in specialty areas. Practical salon sessions may be held on Saturday mornings.

Mandatory orientation for all students is usually held 1 week prior to commencement of the program

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Standard course cost will be charged for units of study/courses credited via RPL.

PART TIME: If attached, complete an application form and return to the Southbank Institute of Technology with the appropriate documentation. If an application form is not attached, ensure that your name, address and phone number are placed on the waiting list by either emailing us or telephoning Student Administration on 13 72 48.


Applications Close

There are two intakes per year, January and July. Applicants for Full-Time study please consult QTAC for details of application closing dates and offer dates. Applications for Part-Time study are made to the Institute and close in December and May, respectively.

Government Subsidised Fee:
- Full Rate: $7,396

A professional equipment kit is included in your fees for both full-time and part-time programs. Also note that Occupational Health and Safety standards require that students adhere to a minimum dress standard, that is, two Beauty Therapy tunic tops which are included in your program fees. Black trousers and fully enclosed black shoes must be purchased at the student's expense.
