Who can join the Adult Migration Program?
The Adult Migrant English Program is available to adult migrants (18 years old or over) for whom English is not the first language, and who have been assessed as not having functional English language skills. The program is free for the majority of clients and includes newly arrived migrants, refugee and humanitarian entrants from overseas. A broad range of ages, nationalities and backgrounds are represented in the classes.
Countries of birth of clients represented at Southbank include;
- Sudan, Burundi, Congo, Liberia, Rwanda
- China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam
- Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Russian Federation
- Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Yugoslavia
- Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador
- Eritrea, Ethiopia, Zambia, Cote D' Ivoire, Malaysia, Indonesia (students from 52 countries are found in the AMEPat Southbank
A flexible delivery enables students to develop in their acquisition of English at their own rate, and the classrooms provide a safe learning environment where migrants learn the communication skills they need to survive in Australian society.
