Print Finishing

Print Finishing is a craft that dates back as far as the written word. A Book Binder had the privilege of preserving the history of civilisation so that sacred teachings, ideas and experience of the past could be protected and transmitted to the present day.
The roll of a Print Finisher has not changed. The book is still one of the greatest inventions of mankind. It provides a form of relaying everything we know.
The Print Finishing sector encompasses an array of technical skills from the restoration of old books to operating precise machines that can produce 15,000 books per hour.
The Faculty of Design, Arts and Hospitality offers three programs in print finishing:
- short course programs in basic book binding and Restoration
- a certificate level fulltime course combining Print Finishing & Screenprinting Sectors
- a certificate level traineeship for mail house employees and
- a traineeship and apprenticeship in print finishing.
Programs are also available in hand binding and book repair and maintenance. These courses are particularly useful to persons employed in libraries.
