What is a PPP?

  • A Public Private Partnership is a form of contractual arrangement between Government and the private sector which harnesses the skills and capability of the private sector in designing, constructing, operating, maintaining and financing major infrastructure projects.

One of the key characteristics of a Public Private Partnership is that the Government maintains control of the infrastructure by monitoring the performance of the private sector. The Government makes payments based on a performance regime and if necessary, can 'step-in' to ensure services are delivered. A Public Private Partnership brings new incentives to the private sector to deliver infrastructure as payments do not commence until the facilities are ready for operation.

Red Cards Have Returned

Southbank Institute of Technology staff and students did a marvellous job of making our campus a smoke free zone earlier this year. But people have begun smoking again throughout the campus…

Security officers are handing out ‘red cards’ again to anyone caught smoking at Southbank. The cards are a courtesy only, and aim to let smokers know that smoking is prohibited throughout SBIT buildings and grounds.

Because nobody smokes here anymore.

Smoking is prohibited throughout all SBIT buildings and grounds. This is in line with the Queensland Government’s strict anti-smoking legislation.

Smoking regulations may be enforced by Environmental Health Officers from Queensland health, who can issue on-the-spot fines of up to $150 to anyone caught smoking at SBIT.

You can visit www.health.qld.gov.au or http://education.qld.gov.au for more information about Queensland’s anti-smoking legislation.
