Applying for FEE-HELP
How do I apply for FEE-HELP?
Students studying in HED001 Civil Engineering
You only need to apply for FEE-HELP once. Unless you choose to pay fees upfront in following semesters, the original application form you have completed for a course of study will be used to manage payment of your fees using FEE-HELP in all following semesters.
Both new and continuing students will receive enrolment information in an electronic enrolment pack sent to their listed email address.
Your enrolment pack will contain:
- Information to assist you in making a choice about your payment options, including FEE-HELP
- A Web Enrolment Form (WEF) containing the Delivery Package and Authorisation Code required to access your course of study through Student Self Service
- The timetable/s necessary in making your class selections
- A FEE-HELP information booklet.
The following payment options are available through Student Self Service:
- Enrol and pay online using the secure payment site.
- Enrol and pay within 24 hours via BPAY, payment at Australia Post (APAY), or in person at the Student Service Centre.
- Enrol and defer payment through the selection of the FEE-HELP payment option. Southbank Institute will verify whether you have previously submitted an eligible 'Request for FEE-HELP Assistance' form, or whether this needs to be mailed to you for completion prior to nominated Southbank Institute dates.
Additional copies of the Request for FEE-HELP Assistance form are available from the Student Service Centre, Level 1, C Block.
If your FEE-HELP balance is insufficient to cover the cost of all units of study in to which you are enrolling, you must pay the balance using another method of payment (e.g. credit card, eftpos, BPAY, cheque or cash).
Please note, you are only able to use FEE-HELP to pay for Associate Degree level programs, and then only if you are an Australian citizen, or a permanent humanitarian visa holder for the duration of study. Other methods of payment must be used if you are enrolling in a different course, or if you are an international student.
Census Date
The day after Census Date is the day your debt for the semester is transferred to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). In order to use FEE-HELP to pay for your semester fees you must submit your 'Request for FEE-HELP Assistance' form to Southbank Institute by the Census Date.
Whether you choose to pay your tuition fees upfront, apply for FEE-HELP, or a combination of both, you are required to finalise all of these arrangements by the Census Date.
Administration Date
Southbank Institute of Technology has also set an Administration Date, which precedes the Census Date. After this day you will be liable to pay the following fine:
A Late Enrolment Fee for processing late enrolments (charged at $50 per transaction).
Commonwealth Assistance Notices (CAN)
If you have submitted an Application for FEE-HELP Assistance, and elected to use FEE-HELP to pay all or part of your fees, you will be provided with a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) within 28 days of the Census Date. The CAN is a summary of your enrolment and associated fees for that enrolment period, including:
- Units in which you are enrolled
- Tuition fees against these units
- The total FEE-HELP assistance you are requesting for the semester
- The 25% loan fee, charged by the Federal Government for administration of your FEE-HELP debt
It is important to check all details on your CAN carefully. Please notify Southbank Institute of any errors within 14 days of the issue date on the CAN.
