For Students and Parents
The Principal is the only person authorised to register their school for participation in the STEP program. A school must be registered for STEP before students can register their interest in the program. As part of the schools registration, the Principal must nominate a STEP Coordinator for their school.
The STEP Coordinator acts as the liaison between the school, parent and Southbank Institute of Technology. The STEP Coordinator assists students wishing to apply for STEP, provides recommendations to the Principal regarding students wishing to take part in STEP Diplomas, and coordinates their school's students enrolled in the program. The STEP Coordinator retains the school code.
Due to growing popularity, Southbank Institute of Technology has made some changes to the application process and introduced an online analysis for the STEP 2011 intake. The online analsysis is not based on IQ and does not favour the most academically gifted students. Please find details of the new application process following:
Stage #1 of the application process: STEP Hub
STEP Hub will be opening on the 2nd August. Please ensure students have their school code and LUI number ready. Students will be required to complete an online personal details form and select the Diploma they would like to study. The online application is sent electronically to the school’s STEP Coordinator for approval. Once approved, students will be contacted by the STEP team and invited to participate in an online analysis.
Stage #2 of the application process: Online Analysis
The Online Analysis will be conducted on campus at the Southbank Institute of Technology. Questions will be focused around Literacy, Numeracy and Abstract Reasoning. The online analysis is colourful, interactive and relevant to young learners. You can try the analysis by registering your details at the following site: http://www.acer.edu.au/forms/vi-demo.
Successful students notified
The STEP team will contact all successful students (and STEP Coordinators) to advise of their acceptance into the STEP program. Students will then be sent an enrolment pack and will have a two week period to complete their enrolment. Any students who do not successfully complete their enrolment within the two week period will have their place withdrawn and given to the next student on the list of candidates.
Please note: All students applying for the STEP program must download and complete a Parent/Guardian Consent form. This form can be found below or via STEP Hub.
