Disability policy - for students with a disability

This policy contains information relating to disability access, admission, disclosure, reasonable adjustment, harassment and responsibilities for students and staff of Southbank Institute.

Fee exemption or extreme financial hardship

Extreme Financial Hardship is categorised by the following criteria:

Fee waivers of between 25% - 100% may be available in circumstances that meet the criteria above. For Further information please contact the Program Enrolment and General Enquiries Line 13 72 48 (+61 137248 Overseas) to make an appointment with a Student Counsellor.

Computer access agreement

This document outlines the terms and conditions for accessing the Internet or other computer applications at Southbank Institute. This information is also supplied in your enrolment pack.

Internet Enrolment Policy

This policy requires that all full and part-time students must enrol via the internet on the Student Self Service website (some exemptions apply).

Withdraw from classes when the class end date is due to occur within 21 days

You can swap classes up to 2 weeks after the classes commence. If you withdraw completely you will not be entitled to a refund because refunds can only be issued if you withdraw prior to commencement of class.

You are not able to withdraw from classes less than 3 weeks prior to the class end date without incurring academic penalty.

Replacement or additional student records

Contact the Customer Service Centre to order replacement or additional student records. You will be charged a small fee for these.

Student appeals

This policy provides information on students’ rights to appeal academic decisions, decisions on their misconduct case or non-academic decisions which they consider to be unfavourable and/or unreasonable.

International student appeals

Standard 8 of the National Code of Practice requires an internal complaints handling and appeals process in addition to a referral arrangement to an appropriate appeals body as required.

The below policy applies to all international students on a Student Visa enrolled in a CRICOS Registered program at Southbank Institute of Technology. Please refer to the Student Appeals Policy No. 616 above for an overview of all Appeals Policies.

International student academic progression monitoring

Under Standard 10 of the National Code of Practice, Southbank Institute of Technology is required to be proactive in notifying and counselling students who are at risk of failing to meet course progress requirements. As a registered provider, Southbank Institute must monitor, record and assess the course progress of each student for each unit and must report students, under section 19 of the ESOS Act, who have breached the course progress requirements.

The below policy applies to all international students on a Student Visa enrolled in a CRICOS Registered program at Southbank Institute of Technology. Please refer to the Student Appeals Policy No. 616 above for an overview of all Appeals Policies.

International student critical incident management

The purpose of this document is to assist SBIT staff to respond appropriately to critical incidents that involve international students.

The policy below applies to all staff who are either directly or indirectly dealing with or providing services to international students at SBIT.

International student deferral, suspension and cancellation of enrolment

The purpose of this document is to ensure that SBIT properly assess a student’s eligibility for deferral or suspension of enrolment abiding by the requirements of the National Code 2007.

This policy applies to all SBIT international students who are enrolled and intend to apply for deferral or temporarily suspend their enrolment during the course of their program studies.

International student transfer between registered providers

This document outlines the conditions under which SBIT will assess an international student’s request for transfer between registered providers.

This policy applies to all International students transferring to SBIT from another registered provider or those who wish to transfer their enrolment from SBIT to another registered provider. This policy also applies to all staff involved in assessing these requests.

International student online or distance learning

This policy is a guide to ensure the procedures in place for monitoring international students’ online delivery components are compliant with the National Code 2007 requirements and that international students are not exceeding the maximum of 25% online delivery.

This policy covers all international students studying at SBIT on a student visa.

International student expected duration of study

This policy outlines SBIT’s compliance with the requirements of the ESOS Act 2000, Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and the National Code 2007 that all International students complete their studies within the expected duration of their program as registered on a Student’s CoE.

This policy applies to all international students enrolled with SBIT and relevant faculty staff that are responsible for program delivery. For detailed policy and procedure on Academic Progression.

Student ID cards

This policy explains the principles and guidelines for compulsory purchase and issue of Student ID cards to all students.

Student orientation

Orientations are compulsory for students to attend, as valuable information relating to your chosen course will be covered during these sessions.

Faculties will send out information regarding dates and times of Orientation through a letter that you will receive prior to commencement of your course. If you are unable to attend due to exceptional circumstances you must contact your Course Coordinator to inform them of your situation and alternative arrangements to receive the relevant information will be arranged.
